If Only You Had Done Nothing Paula

“Paula Bennett’s statement that there is nothing the government can do to halt the rising unemployment rate demonstrates that the National government is completely bereft of ideas,” declared Peter Osborne, Libertarianz Social Welfare Spokesman today.

“The real problem here is that both National and the past Labour governments have done far too much to stifle opportunity, employment and wealth creation in New Zealand. What is needed is for these interfering busybodies to get out of the way.”

He says, “There is plenty they could do to remove their imposed burdens. A drastic downsizing of government agencies and employed bureaucrats is desperately needed. This will remove a financial dead weight currently strangling productive kiwis, opening the way for massive tax cuts and therefore greater spending in productive enterprises as opposed to non productive state initiatives.”

“A shredder must be set upon the mountain of regulation and control currently imposed on all sectors of human endeavour. As we are currently witnessing, the supposed protections we are forced to endure are backfiring big time. Employment law is a disincentive to employ. Building regulation is a disincentive to build. We are awash with state imposed disincentives all under the guise of protection and infrastructure. The problem is that we have been convinced that government can provide and create wealth. It can do neither.”

Mr Osborne concludes, “Institutionalised welfarism is an incentive to stay at home and breed at the expense of everyone else. The government has no place deciding who gets what off whose back. It is time that governments were removed from the realms of wealth redistribution and that voluntary charities took the reins. We have all paid dearly for this garden path and we have been well and truly led up it.”
